Three different designations make up the portfolio of Château Julien wines: Château Julien Private Reserve, Estate Vineyard and Barrel Selected, each produced from grapes grown on the winery's Estate Vineyard in South Monterey County's Lockwood Valley.
Emerald Bay Coastal and Garland Ranch are two additional brands owned by the winery and sold nationwide.
Château Julien Private Reserve wines signify the heritage of the winery. The label dates back to the first release of 1982 Merlot and represents the highest quality wines produced from each vintage, with only 600 six packs produced annually. Over the years, small production lots and traditional techniques have ensured ultimate quality and consistency. Selected blocks of the highest quality fruit from the winery's Estate Vineyard are maintained at low yields and hand harvested specifically for the Private Reserve wines. Limited distribution and long aging potential make these wines very sought after by wine lovers worldwide. Aged in new French oak barrels for up to 2½ years, these wines can be cellared for up to twenty years. Varietals include: Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay.
Château Julien's Estate Vineyard wines were released in Spring 2001, with the first harvest from the winery's vineyard in Lockwood Valley. Produced from low yield vines within various lots throughout the vineyard, these wines have been overseen by the winemaker since the vines were planted in 1996. Each varietal is aged in the winery's "Chai" (barrel room) in new and one year old French and American oak barrels, and produced in limited quantities to maintain the quality and true varietal character representative of the vineyard. Varietals include: Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Syrah.
The Château Julien Barrel Selected label was introduced in 1998. These wines typically have mild tannins and forward fruit, making them extremely food-friendly and approachable upon release. While still produced from Monterey County grapes primarily from our Estate Vineyard, the grapes are ultimately managed for consistency and value in the vineyard. The Barrel Selected wines are aged in one to three year old French and American oak barrels, and have been awarded numerous value accolades over the years. Varietals include: Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Syrah, Sangiovese, Pinot Grigio and Zinfandel.
EMERALD BAY COASTAL
Emerald Bay Coastal was introduced in 1986 as a light, fruity style wine for national distribution. Produced from grapes in California's coastal grape growing regions, these wines are great for every day consumption and are most often seen as house wines in your favorite restaurant. They are stainless steel fermented, with a hint of barrel aging through blending. These wines have crisp, fresh varietal flavors. The varietals include: Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and White Zinfandel. All of the varietals are available in both 750ml and 1.5l sizes.
Subtle oak aging in three year old oak barrels and small production quantities make Garland Ranch wines sought after by many marketplaces throughout the United States. Special attention is given to blending Monterey County fruit, while remaining true to the varietal character in each of the wines. While distributed nationally, Garland Ranch wines have a limited distribution and are mostly seen in the Northeast region of the U.S. The varietals include: Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and White Zinfandel. All of the varietals are available in both 750ml and 1.5l sizes.
