RESORT

Unwind with an exhilarating walk around 19 acres of open oceanfront dunes. Explore our beachfront property on scenic paths where you'll be surrounded by indigenous landscape and native creatures. The recreation trail that follows the coastline begins at our doorstep and provides some of the best views in the county.

Follow up with a relaxing massage or aromatherapy treatment in one of our two treatment rooms, specializing in ocean-inspired spa services. Ask about special arrangements for our private in-room massages and spa treatments.

OUR DEVELOPER

Boutique Hotel Collection, the developer of Sanctuary Beach Resort, specializes in boutique hotel properties. The boutique concept places a premium on distinctive character and unique architectural character of properties in prime destinations.

OUR ENVIRONMENT

As with any project in the sensitive coastal zone, the California Coastal Commission approval was required before the construction of Sanctuary Beach Resort could begin. Since the passage of the California Coastal Act in 1976, no waterfront development has occurred on Monterey Bay, with the exception of Sanctuary Beach Resort. Built on the site of what was previously a sand quarry that processed Monterey Bay sand, Sanctuary Beach Resort is funding a permanent dunes restoration project as part of their development agreement.

This is one of the first programs of its type on the Monterey Peninsula. Sanctuary Beach Resort has made special accommodations to protect the natural habitat of three rare and endangered creatures native to the surrounding dunes. A "lizard crossing" beneath the main entry road has been installed to allow the California Legless Lizard to safely traverse the eastern edge of the property. Native seagrass and buckwheat adorn the banks and dunes of the property to provide the Smith's Blue Butterfly with plantlife found in their natural habitat. The open dunes adjoining the site have been preserved to provide the Snowy Plover their natural habitat of virgin dunes.

Sanctuary Beach hopes to happily co-habit with the natives of the Peninsula. We welcome our guests to observe and respect their beauty and endangered status.
